Indigenous Peoples' Day
Mon, Oct 13, 2025
Indigenous Peoples' Day, is a holiday that celebrates and honors Indigenous Americans, and commemorates their histories, cultures, and contributions. Indigenous Peoples’ Day allows Native peoples and their perspectives to be centered and celebrated; it also gives non-Native people the chance to gain a better understanding of Native communities from all over the Americas and the Caribbean. This is a day to learn, observe, reflect and connect.
To that end, here are some ways you can observe Idigenous People’s Day at home:
Visit the Lenape Center to learn about Lenapehoking, the native Lanape land that includes New York City and New Rochelle, or watch the video here
Read a children’s book by an indigenous author with your family

Learn about and plant native plants from the U.S. Forest Service
